In line with his vision to ensure safety of the maritime industry, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas has threatened to punish with stiff penalties, ship owners who are involved in crude oil theft aimed at sabotaging the economy of the country.
Ibas handed down the warning last week while hosting the Nigerian Ship Owners Association (NISA) in his office in Abuja, saying that the vessels will be treated as saboteurs.

According to him, the association has contributed immensely to the development of the country, stressing that "due to the realization of the role the association plays in the development of the nation that made the meeting apt and relevant".
The CNS noted that any nation that is blessed with the seas ought to utilize the benefits for developing its people, thus stressing the need all the stakeholders to be able to come together to collaborate to ensure a secured environment for business to strive.
