The Provost of Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology in Lagos; Dr. Sule Abiodun said the institute has trained more seafarers than tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Dr Sule who is also a Master Mariner disclosed that notable ship owners and maritime industry operators in Nigeria graduated from the foremost training institute, noting that under his watch as Provost, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has introduced new courses in line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) curricula.

Dr Sule who is also a Master Mariner disclosed that notable ship owners and maritime industry operators in Nigeria graduated from the foremost training institute, noting that under his watch as Provost, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has introduced new courses in line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) curricula.
The Provost, who spoke in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, maintained that location of the institute does not affect the quality of its academics and its products, noting that the institution boasts of latest facilities.
He told our correspondents that the college also has a 16 hectares land at Igbo Olomi at Ibeju Lekki in Lagos which will eventually become its permanent site.
Captain Sule pointed out that the institute has a world-class simulator, and other facilities, stressing that the equipment are important towards achieving the IMO curriculum for nautical science.
"It is not where the college domiciles that matters, but the qualities of deliverables that matter"
"We are also the only Marine College in Nigeria that has state -of- the -art simulators of various standards"
The Provost also added that the College is the first college to start nautical sciences as a course in Nigeria.
He explained that it is erronuos to to attribute this to another maritime college in Nigeria. “This college started just like the Maritime Institute in Newfoundland, this College started just like the Nautical College in Ghana”.
He also added that the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology has also organised hands-on training for more than 300 employees from the oil and gas sector.
Speaking further the frontline master mariner, said that with the support of the former Minister of Agriculture; Dr Akinwunmi Adesina the institute is now equipped with more world-class equipment for training of its students.
He added that apart from the ministry, institute also gets supports from Regional Maritime University in Ghana and the International Maritime Organisation occasionally.
