Dutch tanker attacked, boarded in Gulf of Guinea, 15 crew kidnapped
De Poli Ship management report that following an attack by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa 15 crewmembers have been taken from its chemical tanker DAVIDE B. Six other seafarers of the vessel are safe and unhurt and remain on board of the ship which is currently attended by security personnel that have arrived on scene. DAVIDE B came under attack whilst sailing some 210 nautical miles south of Cotonou, Benin.

General cargo ship DANA TRADER reportedly sank some 15 nm north of Abu Qir, Egypt, Mediterranean, early in the morning Mar 11, while en route from Alexandria to Beirut Lebanon. 9 crew were rescued, 1 recovered dead by Egypt Navy, 1 crew is missing, SAR continuing.

Greek bulk carrier banned from Egypt, quarantined, Master medevaced
Bulk carrier NIKOLAOS GS was prohibited docking and turned away from her port of destination Alexandria Egypt, after several crew were found test positive. Greek ship sailed to Crete and was anchored in Kalios Lemenes, southern Crete, at night Mar 9. 66-year old Master was medevaced by Coast Guard and transferred to hospital, he’s also test positive, though exact character of his sickness isn’t revealed. 13 or 14 out of 20 crew were found to be test positive, though all of them, except Master, are healthy in all respects – or in other words, according to modern “medicine” definition of healthy people, they’re asymptomatic. Understood the ship is put under quarantine, to make sure that healthy seamen are indeed, healthy seamen.
Reports on NIKOLAOS GS mishap are confusing – Coast Guard didn’t mention positive tested crew at all, as well, as why the ship was turned away from Egypt, the full story of Egypt ban and 14 crew tested positive, is told by media.

Cargo ship sank off Constanta, Black sea, 2 crew dead, 1 missing rescue
VOLGO BALT 179 sank in stormy weather east of Constanta, Romania, early in the morning Mar 11, being en route from Rostov, Azov sea, Russia, to Constanta, with cargo of coal. The ship issued distress signal at 0340 Moscow time Mar 11, reporting that crew is abandoning the ship. Anchored (according to track) off Constanta offshore support vessel GSP FALCON (IMO 8324579) responded and steamed to assist. Out of understood, 13 crew (all Ukrainian), 10 were rescued, 2 recovered dead, and 1 was missing.

German Container Ship Disabled After Collision
Container ship OLYMPIA was disabled, adrift after reportedly, collision, in South China sea off Phu Yen Province coast, central Vietnam. The ship seemed to be under way at 5 knots speed in vicinity 13 08N 110 50E as of 0800 UTC Mar 9, proceeding by changing courses. Collision understood to take place at around 0200 UTC Mar 9. The ship is en route from Shanghai to Sihanoukville Cambodia, ETA Mar 10. She might be seriously damaged, changing courses and proceeding at slow speed, in order to cope with collision consequences. Her adversary’s ID unknown so far, no other ships spotted in the vicinity.
Ferry disabled in rough weather, taken on tow, Iceland
Ferry BALDUR, serving the line between Stykkisholmur and Breidafjordur ports in Breidafjordur Bay, western Iceland, broke down in the morning Mar 11 while en route to Stykkisholmur, and started to drifti in western direction in rough weather conditions. Fishing support vessel ARNI FRIDRIKSSON (IMO 9192404) responded, and took disabled ferry on tow, later she was joined by Icelandic Coast Guard ship THOR. Ferry is to be towed to Stykkisholmur, passengers on board refused helicopter evacuation and will remain on ferry until she is docked.
Pilot fell overboard, rescued in Dardanelles
Turkish pilot fell into water from pilot ladder, while boarding bulk carrier LORD NELSON in eastern Dardanelles, in the evening Mar 7. The ship stopped, pilot was rescued, he’s safe and in good health. Bulk carrier is en route from Ukraine to Portugal, she probably, interrupted her voyage for investigation. Last AIS position was dated around 1700 UTC Mar 7 in Dardanelles, apparently after pilot fell overboard and the ship maneuvered to rescue him, at a reduced speed.
