The Customs Area Controller in charge of the Western Marine Command (WMC) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Comptroller Olugboyega Peters, has implored the newly promoted officers of the command to facilitate trade by carrying out their responsibilities without compromise.
Olugboyega who said this on Tuesday while decorating the newly promoter officers also encouraged them to step up to the new responsibility.
According to the Compt, the newly promoted officers have to change the way they operate and their perception of the Customs profession, noting that they should be role models to their subordinates and good representatives of the Service.
“This is an additional responsibility and you have to realize that this is a privilege. Don’t abuse this privilege and don’t disappoint the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (Rtd) and his management team who approved the promotion”
“Customs is saddled with the onus of revenue collection, anti-smuggling and data collection. At Western Marine, we can justify this promotion by improving 24/7 service which should result to safer waters and reduced smuggling activities on the waterways”
The WMC boss also commended Col. Hammed Ali and his management team for ensuring consistent promotion of officers, noting that there was a time officers stayed for nine years in the Service without promotion.
The Area Controller also admonished the 15 decorated officers to develop their skills in the core areas of the service like revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, among others.
The fifteen officers decorated during the exercise include; I. Ohanyere from Assistant Comptroller to Deputy Comptroller.
W.F Muhammed and S. O Ariyebi from Chief Supritendent of Customs to Assistant Comptroller.
A. G Musa promoted from Deputy Supritendent of Customs to Supritendent of Customs.
N. Tangwa, B. H Mohammed, C. H Anugba, U. Egwuonwu, H. O Balogun all promoted from Assistant Supritendent of Customs 1 to Deputy Supritendent of Customs.
A. Orji and A. A. Adeniyi were decorated as Assiatnt Supritendent of Customs 1 having being promoted from Assiatbt Supritendent of Customs 2.
M. Y Dansoka, A. Salisu, E.S Edeh and S. Dimka were also decorated as Assistant Supritendent of Customs 2 after they were promoted from Inspector of Customs.
Speaking on behalf of the newly-promoted officers, spokesman of the Command DSC Emmanuel Tangwa commended the service and the Area Controller for the support and encouragement to officers.
He assured that the newly promoted officers wouldn’t disappoint as the Customs management as they go about the discharge of their responsibilities.
