The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has lifted the ban on campaigns for elections into executive positions in eight of its chapters in the western zone.
A statement on the lifting which issued by the association’s electoral committee (ASECO), a copy of which was received by Shipping Position Daily revealed that the action, however, did not affect Apapa chapter.
In the statement which was signed by the committee’s chairman, Alhaji Abdulazeez Babatunde, it was revealed that the decision to allow campaigns to start was in line with the associations’ constitution which prescribes that elections must be conducted  within  90 days into the expiration of the tenure  of the incumbent executives.
Even though the statement is silent on the full timetable for election, our sources hinted that they might be conducted by next month.
However speaking with our correspondent on the development yesterday, the ASECO chairman confirmed that electioneering can now start, even as he promised that, in its tradition, the committee will conduct very credible elections.
