Even as the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) sets to mark its 60 years anniversary tomorrow (Friday) the association says it is celebrating the event with the official commissioning of its newly national secretariat.

In an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily in his office yesterday, ANLCA National President; Prince Olayiwola Shittu disclosed that the association has so far spent a whooping N150million on the secretariat project.

Shittu also said that as part of activities to mark the 60th Anniversary celebration of ANLCA, the association plans to hold a Gala Night at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Festac Town, Lagos, also on Friday.

According to him, dignitaries who have indicated interest to attend the function include: the Vice President of the Federal Republic; Ach. Namadi Sambo, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Minister of Transport; Sentaor Idris Umar and the Comptroller General of Customs, Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi.

Shittu equally assured that all former presidents of ANLCA were carried along in the epoch -making event and that most importantly, its former president and former Senator , Alhaji Sani Kamba will be flying into Lagos today for the programme.

"The highlight of it all is the commissioning and cutting of the cake and unveiling of the building itself, the purpose is to celebrate our 60 years and to celebrate the relationship we have with the Customs, we are revenue generators for the government"

"All the past presidents are going to be here apart from those domiciled abroad like Chief Rafiu Ladipo and Peter Okocha. Already Alhaji Sani Kamba is flying in today, all the former Presidents were dully notified, we wrote letters to them" Shittu confirmed.

Speaking on the value of the newly acquired property, shittu stated that even though the total value of the secretariat could not be ascertained yet owing to ongoing beautification, he placed the project conservatively at N150million.

"The building itself was purchased for N120million, but we had to pay taxes and charges, we are also paying the government for transfer so it is not something we can put a total figure yet, but I know that conservatively we have done more than N150million", he confirmed.

According to Shittu, the most important benefit that ANLCA members will derive from the new secretariat is the ability to conduct lectures and training programmes within the building.

He revealed that already, Redeemers University has partnered with ANLCA on training and the Nigeria Customs Service has equally offered her a training programme.

"Every organisation requires a headquarters, we already had a functional secretariat, but we just thought that ANLCA deserves a permanent secretariat" Shittu told our correspondent yesterday.

He assured that all the grey areas have been trashed out with aggrieved members of the Board of Trustees of the association and that their presence on Friday will confirm this.
