The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Lilypond Chapter says that clearing of consignments at the terminal takes less than 48 hours stressing that it is faster to clear from terminal than any other off -dock facility in Nigeria.

Chairman of chapter; Prince Anselm Njemanze made this known in a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos yesterday.

Njemanze attributed the speedy clearance of consignments out of the terminal to the controller in charge of the command, saying that she is a goal getter.

He disclosed that revenue collection by the Nigeria Customs Service at Lilypond, experienced a lull in the last three months, but attributed this to the decline in the operational activities of clearing containers at the terminal.

He added that the location for booking at Point Road in Apapa poses a serious threat to freight agents, pointing out that the operators are exposed to all form of danger, including accident, traffic gridlock, police intimidation and robbery.

"We operate faster than 48 hours here and we take delivery of cargoes in less than 48 hours "
It is one of the goals the CAC on board promised us when she came, that she want to break the record of 48 hours and that is why I said we are faster here ".

Njemanze stressed that as a full-fledged terminal there is the need to stem containers regularly to an off-dock facility like the Ijora based terminal because according to him, clearing of cargo is faster there.

The ANLCA chieftain added that, " I do not see why containers are not transferred to Lilypond because there are equipment on ground that can aid clearing of goods from the terminal".

Njemanze said that freight agents and other government agencies enjoy a robust cordial relationship, noting that the major challenge faced by the operators is the fact that there are less activities at the terminal.

Speaking further the chairman appealed to the customs and shipping companies to stem containers to off dock facilities in other to avoid port congestions at the seaports.
