Council of Maritime Truck Union and Association (COMTUA) has again petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, over alleged extortion and harassment of its members by members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria(RTEAN) and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), including some agents of the local government.

COMTUA, in a letter signed by its president, Adeyinka Aroyewun to the IGP, he lamented that despite several petitions, the illegality and criminal activities of the above mentioned people have not received any attention, this is even as the association stated that it’s members will no longer fold hands to allow hoodlums determine their business.

COMTUA said its members have resolved to stand in the protection of their businesses, alleging that the police and other agencies of government are standing with illegality.

The letter reads: “I wish to inform your office once again that several report of this illegality and criminal activities of the above mentioned people have not received any attention.

“A meeting held at the instance of the Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State on the 16th of March, further declare as illegal, collections on the road under whatever disguise.

“We reported same at Area E command on the 18th of March and even at the instance of DPO (Kirikiri Police Station) on the 23rd March, 2022.Yet we suffer the same faith.

I hope we shall refer to our several petitions, complaints and meetings when it is necessary”, it reads.
