Again, Pirates Lay Siege On Lagos Waters

Daredevil pirates laid siege on Lagos waters last week, attacking two petroleum products-laden ships and one chemical tanker in the process.
In separate attacks, which occurred between Sunday, Monday and Thursday, a tanker was hijacked, while ships’ crew were badly injured and valuables carted away.
Maritime security sources informed our correspondents that, in the first attack which took place on Sunday, August 11 at location 0005 LT: Posn: 06:18N – 003:26E, Lagos Anchorage.

Maritime security sources informed our correspondents that, in the first attack which took place on Sunday, August 11 at location 0005 LT: Posn: 06:18N – 003:26E, Lagos Anchorage.
According to the information made available to us: “Robbers in a small skiff approached an anchored product tanker. Master raised the alarm, all crew mustered and the armed guards on board fired warning shots resulting in the skiff moving away”.
Apparently emboldened, the pirates launched another attack in the following day (Monday)at the same Lagos Anchorage, but at different location.
According to security sources, last Monday at 0330 LT: 06:19N – 003:27E: Lagos Anchorage, Nigeria, the pirates were able to board the tanker.  “About 11 pirates armed with guns boarded and hijacked a chemical tanker at anchor. They stole crew personal belongings and caused minor injuries to crew members”. The tanker was eventually released the following day.
Not done yet, another set of hoodlums made attempts to board a tanker on Thursday, but they were repelled.  This happened also at the Lagos anchorage.    
Our sources confirmed that, on that day, “about 8 – 10 robbers in a speed boat tried to place a hook to the tanker’s railing. They were spotted by the crew and alarm was raised. Other ships were informed on VHF Radio. The boat moved away. Local authorities were informed and a naval patrol arrived at the location and conducted a search”.
The sources hinted that none of the pirates was arrested by security agents.
