There are strong indications that today's elections into the national executive council of the Igbo Maritime Forum; a tribal and cross association body for maritime industry stakeholders from the south-eastern part of the country will be a straight contest between members of the forum from two frontline freight forwarding associations.

There are strong indications that today's elections into the national executive council of the Igbo Maritime Forum; a tribal and cross association body for maritime industry stakeholders from the south-eastern part of the country will be a straight contest between members of the forum from two frontline freight forwarding associations.
Members of the forum from both the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) confirmed to our correspondent that their associations are interested in who emerges as the president general of the Igbo Maritime Forum.
Even though the chairman of the forum's electoral committee, Chief Achike Molokwu denied direct involvement of any association in today's elections, even as he confirmed that members of the forum are also members of the freight forwarding associations.
According to him, eight positions are being vied for and three members are vying for the position of president general.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed yesterday that, even though front runners are downplaying their freight forwarding association affiliations, it will play a dominant role in who emerges as executive council members today.
Our correspondent also confirmed that the NAGAFF is backing one of the aspirants for the position of president general, even though, the preferred candidate of ANLCA was being kept secret for what a national executive member of the association disclosed as the un-official involvement of the association's national leadership in the election.
“At the national level, we are not involved, but we encourage our members at the various chapters to participate”, a member of the executive told our correspondent.
It is being speculated yesterday that an underdog may emerge, because of the renewed interests of the associations.
The three contestants for the post of president general are known members of the tow front line freight forwarding associations.
