The newly elected chairman of Tin Can Island Port chapter of the Assocaition of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Prince Kayode Oyinlola has shed light on the circumstances that led to his coming back to contest in the heated elections, which saw him emerging as the sole candidate.
He claimed in an exclusive interview with Shipping Position Daily last week that his successor; Mr Kayode Farinto actually approached him to come back and vie for the post of chairman of the association at the chapter.
He eventually became Farinto’s arch rival in the controversial election, which he won unopposed, because the former was disqualified by the association’s electoral committee.
Asked why he decided to come back, the new chairman said: Honestly, about a year ago I did not have the intention of coming back, my sudden emergence was conceived by my opponent; that is Farinto, he was the one who came to invite me that election is coming up and that what am I doing about it, and that he is not even interested in the election. This was not even on a working day, it was on a weekend, I was in my house, he called me that election is coming up and that I was keeping quiet, but I told him that as far as I was concerned I was not interested in Tin Can island election again and that I was waiting for the national elections and then I will decide what post I wanted at the national level. But he was the one that called my attention and even came to me, I will not want to tell you other things that happened underneath, this was how I came in, I never knew that two of us will become the final candidates for the election.
He added that both of them had an agreement. “He said he was not interested and I told him that I was not interested as well in the chairmanship of Tin Can; we now had an agreement which I will not like to tell you for now”, he told our correspondent last week.
