The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has called on the Federal Government through the various regulatory agencies at the airport to simplify cargo clearance processes.

Chairman of the chapter, Mr Alloy Nze Igwe in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily last week pointed out that air cargo is very sensitive and different from the operations at the seaports; hence, government regulatory agencies must ensure bureaucracies attached to goods clearance at the seaport are simplified at the air port.
Alloy stated that the association is ready to make proper representations to the government and its various agencies in order for them to reconsider policies as it affects air cargo affreightment.
Speaking, he said that “other angle I want to reposition the association at the airport is to look at some policies of the government that does not favor air cargo, we will make representations, I mean proper representation to the government and its various agencies to reconsider policies as it affects air cargo”
According to him, air cargo is purely an emergency cargo because most of the goods that are imported are mostly perishable goods, hence the goods needs to leave the port immediately without any delay.
“For example, air cargo is purely an emergency cargo, it is a cargo that as the goods are coming in it is expected to leave immediately, and most of the cargoes coming here are cargoes that are perishables, so bureaucracies that will hamper the clearing process should be looked into” Alloy stressed
