Association Tasks Traders On FG’s Borders Reopening Protocol

The Market Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN) has urged members across the country to comply with the Federal Government’s protocols on border reopening to ensure smooth running of their businesses.

The President of the association, Alhaji Jamilu Abbas, gave the advice while speaking in Abuja on Friday.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday directed the reopening of four land borders in the country.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, announced it after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

She listed the borders as Seme, South-West, Ilela, North-West, Maigatari, North-West and Mfun in South-South.
Abbas, however, cautioned traders to be wary of unscrupulous elements that could use them to smuggle firearms into the country.

“I enjoin all the traders to acquaint themselves with the items on the ban list so that they will not import such products into the country. MATAN will sanction anyone that goes against government’s protocols and policies on this border reopening.

“Any erring member who violates government’s protocols will face the wrath of the law and the association will not intervene in anyway while such person is being prosecuted by security agencies.”

Abbas thanked Buhari for heeding to the outcry of traders across the country and the continent of Africa by reopening the borders.
