Dr Alex Okwuashi, the Rector, Certified Institute of Shipping (CIS) said last weekend that the multi-purpose Bamanga Tukur International Maritime Transport Resource Centre in Badagry would be inaugurated next week.
Okwuashi, announced this in a statement in Lagos after a meeting of a committee of maritime stakeholders assigned to oversee the inauguration.
The statement said that the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, was expected to be the Chief Host at the event.

The statement said that the Minister of Transport, Sen. Idris Umar, was expected to be the Chief Host at the event.
It said that the ceremony would be attended by maritime stakeholders from West and Central Africa.
“The resource centre, which is the first of its kind in Africa, would be a place of academic and professional excellence housing the institute.
“The institute chose to name the centre after Bamanga Tukur, a Patron and Fellow of the institute, because he is a man with so much passion for the growth of shipping.
“This act would immortalise his name for his contributions to Africa and Nigeria in particular in both governance and business,’’ the statement said.
It added that government agencies and private organisations in the industry like the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Shippers’ Council and ENL Consortium, would participate in the event.
It said that the groundbreaking ceremony of the second phase of the project, a 3,000 capacity auditorium, would be done simultaneously.
