The Secretary General, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria’; Comrade Aham Ubani is dead. He died on Monday afternoon.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed yesterday that the late scribe of the union died in an undisclosed hospital in Apapa, Lagos after a brief illness.
Ubani until his death, Ubani served under the current President General MWUN , Comrade Anthony Nted Emmanuel for two terms , as well as under the immediate past President General; Comrade Onikolease Irabor.
The late MWUN secretary general, who hailed from Umuahia, Abia State, was survived by a wife, six children and grandchildren.
Confirming Ubani’s demise to our correspondent in Lagos yesterday, President, Dockworkers branch of MWUN; Comrade Adewale Adeyanju said that the late secretary general died in a Lagos hospital, even as he expressed shock.
He described the late Ubani as a rare gem and a perfect gentleman whose contributions to the MWUN will remain indelible.
Adeyanju said that the union would carry out necessary arrangement once the family of the deceased was contacted.
Also speaking on the death, the Deputy General Secretary, Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association, Comrade John Okpono described the late unionist as a complete gentleman who never got aggrieved.
John who said he used to call him ‘talk and do’ said that late Ubani would always tell people to say what they would do and not give vague promises, saying that the late Secretary was always giving palliatives to knotty issues.
