Barring any last minute change, the minister of transport, Senator Idris Umar is set to reconstitute the governing council of the embattled Council for the Regulation of Freight forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), which he dissolved last week.
Impeccable sources at the ministry of transport confirmed to our correspondent last week, that following the dissolution of the governing council, there is a proposal to the minister to name his appointees into the council, so that the work of the Council can progress.

Shipping Position Daily confirmed that, while waiting for elections into the council, the minister is set to name the 17 appointees from the six geopolitical zones as well as institutions, agecies and bodies that will run the affairs of the Council.
Our source hinted that the appointees will continue to run as governing council pending when the elections would hold.
Similarly, the minister has directed that three agencies namely: the Nigerian Ports Authourity, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency and the Nigerian Shipper’s Council to provide the logistics for elections and general  funding of the Council, pending when things will normalize and CRFFN would be able to raise funds to meet its obligations.
Under the CRFFN Act, the minister is empowered to appoint six persons to represent the six geopolitical zones, tow persons from educational institutions, four persons from ministries of finance, transport and education, Nigerian Ports Authourity, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Shippers Council, Nigerian Railway Corporation, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authourity and NACCIMA.
“Once the minister is able to announce these nominees, the governing council will start sitting again, as you can see the number can form a quorum effectively.
“Even if NPA, NIMASA and Shippers’ Council are able to come to the rescue of the council, I dint know if the elections can hold this year”, he stated.
He however refused to give an insight into the list, but disclosed that many of those whom the minster had appointed from freight forwarders are not going to make the list.
Another source in the ministry confided in Shipping Position Daily that the dissolution of the governing council did not come to the council as a surprise; their leaders knew and actually supported it.
He disclosed that the minister was encouraged to take the action, because of the disposition of the governing council to it. “The initial plan was to attempt to extend the tenure, the minster has the powers to do that under the Act, but some leaders on the governing council encouraged the minister to dissolve the council. They told him that extending the tenure is like postponing the evil day, so he agreed with them”, he explained.
