The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Custom Service, Alhaji Inde Dikko Abdullahi has promised that the service will in 2013 make sure that the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) of the Customs gets more cargoes so as to increase its level of revenue collection.
Dikko gave the assurance while addressing officers of the KLT command while on a tour of all customs formations in Lagos last month, even as he charged the officers to be more determined in carrying out their responsibilities in the year.

“In January, I want you to have a change of attitude towards your work, be diligent, be punctual and be very serious in discharging your statutory responsibilities. We know that KLT is a very small area command, but we hope that in January we will do our best to ensure that more cargoes come into this terminal, much has been given to you and much is also expected” he charged.
Dikko also assured the officers of the passage of the much talked about CEMA Bill which is currently before the National Assembly. According to him, with the passage of the new CEMA law, the Nigeria customs is going to become the best government organization in the country.
In other to ensure the right attitude towards work, the customs boss further reiterated that the welfare of the officers will be looked into again in 2013. In line with this, he promised that in 2013, every Customs officer will be given two pairs of uniforms free of charge.
“I am doing everything humanly possible with my able management to make sure that your welfare is taken care of. I can authoritatively tell you that the Nigeria Customs is the highest paying agency in terms of salaries and wages”.
“While you are discharging your responsibility, you have to look uniform both in clothing and in mind, this is the only way we can win the confidence of Nigerians”, he charged.
He however predicted challenges ahead of the Nigeria Customs Service in 2013, even as he stressed that the service is determined to take over the responsibilities of destination inspection from the inspection agents.
