Customs Controller Revives Consultative Forum At Seme Border

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Seme Command, Comptroller Victor Dimka has revived the Customs-Community Consultative Forum (CCCF) by engaging members of the host communities in an interactive session recently.
According to a press release issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr. Selechang Taupyen, reviving the CCCF shows the understanding of the Controller of the command, that to succeed at the very strategic command; he has to carry the host community along.
“The CAC understands that he cannot succeed alone in the task of revenue collection and anti-smuggling activities without the co-operation of the critical stakeholders as well as the host communities”, the statement confirmed.

According to the command’s image maker, Comptroller Dimka used the forum to sensitize all the participants on the negative effects of smuggling and consumption of imported frozen poultry products stressing that the chemical which might have been used to preserve the products for months or years was disastrous to the health of Nigerians and the Nigeria economy at large.
He added that the Seme command Customs boss told the forum that leaders would only respected when they lead by example and are seen to be doing the right thing, adding that the Controller urged them to partner with him to become vanguard and agents of change in their immediate communities.
Comptroller Dimka reportedly told the forum that the Nigeria Customs Service does not live in a vacuum, even as he acknowledged that the host communities were essential to realizing the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service.
He added that, “the service expects that the understanding will go a long way to cushion any hiccup that might have been militating against its operations at the international border”, he said.
“The Comptroller noted that Seme command will continue to build a sustainable relationship with key individuals, groups and the host communities. He said the service will continue to demonstrate sensitivity to community concerns as anything that affect the community will also affect the service performance and responsibilities to the Nigerian people”.
