The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Katsina State Command, has seized 177 different items worth N192.2 million from January to March at the Katsina State borders.
The Area Comptroller, Alhaji Dahiru Aminu, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Katsina while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command.
He said that some of the items seized include bags of rice, sugar, hundred cartons of spaghetti, hundred jerry-cans of vegetable oil and cartons of Nescafe.
Others items are used cars and motorcycles, slippers, cartons of mosquito coil, shoes and prohibited drugs among others.
He explained that items like rice and sugar were supposed to be imported through seaports.
Aminu said that there was an increase in the seizure made by the command when compared to that of March 2012, where only 16 items were seized and their Duty Paid Value was only N12.7 million.
He said that the command had generated N1.1 billion during the period under review, which represented a shortfall in the collection made in 2012, where it generated N1.2 billion.
He attributed the shortfall in the collection to security challenges which affected business activities in the area.
The comptroller commended the efforts of officers and men of the command, urging them to keep up the good efforts.
Aminu also called for a continued synergy and collaboration with other security agents in an effort to combat smuggling activities in the country.
