Nigeria Customs Service said last weekend that it has made seizures worth N45.7 Million in the fifth week of its crack down on importers of poultry products into Nigeria, called ‘Operation Hawk Descend”.
In a statement signed by its public relations officer; Mr Wale Adeniyi, the Customs said the Value is the highest recorded since the launch of the operation last month.

In a statement signed by its public relations officer; Mr Wale Adeniyi, the Customs said the Value is the highest recorded since the launch of the operation last month.
Giving details of the exercise, the spokesperson said the Ogun Command accounted for 6, 565 cartons , with Duty Paid Value of N2,937,441.00. The Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ recorded 1,395 cartons with Duty Paid Value of N7,533,000.00
According to him, the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘B’ based in Kaduna seized 6,000 cartons
with Duty Paid Value of N 35,000,000
“Assessing the seizure trend, Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi stated that smugglers of poultry products are now exploring routes in the Northern and Eastern parts of the Country, as the Special Operation had made life difficult for them in the South-Western flank”, the statement added.
The Customs boss was reported to have commended the Federal Operations Units in Lagos and Kaduna for their huge seizures, even as he put other Commands on alert.
The Customs PRO said that, the success of Operation “Hawk Descend” has attracted the commendation of the Poultry Association of Nigeria.
The association had in a statement issued commended the “excellent performance through various acts of onslaught, arrests and confiscation of smuggled poultry products into the country. This is very unprecedented, as we can boldly say that operation “Hawk Descend” is a highly successful exercise”.
It will be recalled that recently, the Nigeria Customs Service signed a bilateral agreement with the Customs Administration of Benin Republic to synergize and share intelligence to boost operations along the borders. To actualise this agreement, the Nigeria Customs Service has supported Benin Customs Administration with a donation of five new pick-up Double Cabin Vehicles.
