Even as there is no clear-cut directive as to who is in charge at the Nigeria Customs Service, following the exit of its Comptroller General; Alhaji Dikko Abdullahi on Tuesday, there is a confirmation that an emergency meeting of the Service’s management is scheduled to hold today in Abuja.
Sources close to the Service confided in one of our correspondents yesterday that today’s meeting will be attended by all Deputy Comptrollers General, Assistant Comptrollers General, Zonal Coordinators and all Areas Controller of commands and units.

Even though our source didn’t confirm who will preside over the meeting, it was learnt that invitation for the meeting was at the instance of DCG John Atte who was handed over the mantle of leadership of the Service amidst intense politicking and lobbying. He is the most senior among the Service’s DCGs.
Shipping Position Daily learnt that, even though he would only act until a substantive CG is appointed, the immediate past CG of Customs; Dikko Abdullahi was reluctant to hand over to Atte. He was said to have preferred another DCG.
Today’s meeting may be used to stabilize the Service and restore order, following the controversial exit of the former CG.
Our correspondent also confirmed yesterday that the decision by Dikko to hand over to Atte behind closed door is not being viewed pleasantly by the Presidency, which drew a corollary between the handover at the Nigerian Ports Authourity (also on Tuesday), when Prince Sanusi Ado Bayero handed over to returnee Managing Director; Mallam Habib Abdullahi peacefully.
The Presidency was miffed that the Dikko, rather than hand over to Atte in the full glare of the public chose to perform the statutory duty behind closed door.
Our correspondent confirmed that, even though not officially designated as Acting CG of Customs, DCG John  Atte intends to use today’s meeting to stabilize his stint.
