The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned the public about a surge in fraudulent activities on social media, where individuals impersonate high-ranking officials to exploit unsuspecting individuals through fictitious auctions and fake recruitment drives.
In a press statement issued by Abdullahi Maiwada, a Chief Superintendent of Customs and National Public Relations Officer he said, the NCS alerts citizens to the escalating threat posed by scammers falsely claiming affiliation with the NCS on various social media platforms.
According to the NCS, these deceptive individuals exploit the public’s trust by impersonating officials within the organization, promoting non-existent auctions and recruitment efforts purportedly endorsed by the NCS. The service unequivocally declares that auctions of seized goods never occur through social media and urges the public to treat any such claims online as fraudulent and report them promptly.
To ensure accurate information, the NCS advises the public to verify details exclusively through the official NCS website, www.customs.gov.ng, or contact their help desk line at +2347037891156. The official social media handles listed in the statement are also recommended as reliable sources of information.
The service further urged individuals to visit any Customs formation nationwide and meet with Public Relations Officers (PROs) to verify financial commitments related to seized goods or recruitment before proceeding. The NCS emphasizes the importance of vigilance and prudence when approached with offers or announcements regarding Customs auctions or recruitment.
