Items donated included: bags of rice, wheat, garri, vegetable oil and palm oil.

Other are clothes, mattresses, blankets, motorcycles, tricycles, grinding machines, generators and desktop computers as well as insecticides, among others.

Ekiti Deputy Governor, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, disclosed this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Odunayo Ogunmola, on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti.

He lauded the agency for the gesture, noting that the materials would go a long way in cushioning the effects of disasters on the affected victims.

The deputy governor, according to the statement, said the items were donated by the agency’s Director General, Dr Bashir Jamoh.

The statement said the State Emergency Management Agency ,(SEMA) Chairman, Capt. Sunday Adebomi, had earlier received the NIMASA team and the relief materials donated to the state.

Egbeyemi said, “I am delighted to express profound gratitude on behalf of the Ekiti government and the entire people of the state for this kind gesture for the provision of these relief items for the victims of various disasters in the state, especially the Internally Displaced Persons by NIMASA.”

Speaking earlier, NIMASA boss, Dr Bashir Jamoh, explained that the donation was part of the agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to assist Nigerians suffering from natural disasters and insecurity.

The agency’s boss was represented by his Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mrs Ronke Thomas, who said the exercise will be replicated in the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to identify with Nigerians in distress and also give succour to them.

In his remarks, Ekiti SEMA Chairman, Captain Adebomi, said the state would need more relief materials from well-meaning agencies and corporate bodies, noting that the state has over 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons.
