The Managing Director of the institute, Dr Hugh Friday Nwaneri told Shipping Position Daily in an exclusive interview that the school is likely commence lectures in its permanent site in December with at least five big classrooms.

The Managing Director of the institute, Dr Hugh Friday Nwaneri told Shipping Position Daily in an exclusive interview that the school is likely commence lectures in its permanent site in December with at least five big classrooms.
Though the facility is under construction, Nwaneri affirmed that some of the equipment that are needed to be put in place before the commencement of the school are already been acquired.
According to him, the new site of the academy will run all the basic safety training courses with the introduction of cadetship training which he said will be first of its kind in any maritime training institute in the country.
He said that the maritime training institutions in the country deserve encouragement by concerned authority to effect a change in the lives of the Nigeria youths who wish to choose a career in shipping and seafaring.
Nwaneri noted that the training acquired in Nigeria when compared to that obtained outside the shores of Nigeria are quite different, due to the lack of equipment that the indigenous academy possess in the training of the Nigerian youths.
‘’The set of training given to them and the set of training given to them oversea is quite difference, but when you look at the training that is obtainable in Nigeria, you will find out that lack of infrastructure is a problem’’.
‘’With good instructors on ground, the right materials in place with conducive atmosphere for learning, Nigeria seafarers can compete favourably with their foreign counterparts’’, he stressed.
According to Nwaneri, all the instructors in his institute are foreigners with vast knowledge of marine training and safety with international standard.
Speaking about his challenges as the Chief Executive Officer of the school, he said that his major priority is to ensure that academic work commences at the permanent campus before the end of year, even as he affirmed that the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency [NIMASA] has been offeering both financial and moral support to actualize his dream.
According to him, the three plots of land school which the school occupies in Owerri will play host to students from the six geopolitical zones in the country.
