Frontline maritime training institution; Emdee Shipping and Maritime College will this week know its fate on the number of students to be admitted through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) into the college.
JAMB had invited the maritime training school for a meeting to hold in Ondo State this week, in line with the 2013|2014 academic session.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, Registrar of the school, Mrs. Otuyemi Liade said that the meeting will determine the number of intake from JAMB.
Otuyemi lamented that the recent strike by the Academic Staff Unions of University (ASUU) has disturbed the admission process which was supposed to commence in September.
According to her, “the meeting with JAMB will hold in Ondo State when we get there we will know what JAMB has in stock for us’’.
Otuyemi added that students that were unable to meet the cut-off marks in the Universities and Polytechnics in the country will be given an opportunity to pick a career in professional training institutions among which Emdee shipping and maritime college falls under.
She affirmed that the outcome of the meeting this week will determine the number of students that will be admitted into the prestigious maritime academy assuring that hopefully the school will commence its first ever historic admission of the school.
She also said that ‘’we are a standard institution and since it is not allowed for standard and government  approved institutions to resume lectures until after the admission exercise ,we have no choice but to comply with the JAMB directive ‘’
