A non Governmrnt Organisation (NGO); Hengo Badagry Youths Association has inaugurated a campaign against the numerous checkpoints set up by security agencies along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Mr Felix Godonu, President of the association in a statement on Tuesday in Badagry, said the multiple checkpoints had become a major source of frustration and economic hardship for residents of the area.

According to Godonu, the objectives of the campaign are to raise awareness about the negative impact of multiple checkpoints on the economy and road users.

“The campaign is to advocate for the immediate removal of all illegal checkpoints numbering 39, comprising Police, Nigeria Customs, Army, Immigration, Quarantine and Port Health, along the Seme-Badagry-Lagos and Owode-Apa Expressways.

“It is also to promote a safe and secure environment for road users,” he said.

The president noted that the youths in Badagry were tired of the harassment, extortion and intimidation of their people by security agencies and other stakeholders manning these checkpoints.

He demanded immediate action to address the issue and ensure that the roads were safe and secure for all users.

“We are not against legitimate security checks, but we believe that these checks can be carried out efficiently and effectively without subjecting road users to unnecessary hardship.

“We urge the government to take immediate action to address this issue and ensure that the rights of road users are protected,” he said.

Godonu said he had led the delegation of the association to the Controller of Customs, Seme Command; Comptroller Wale Adenuga last Friday on a courtesy visit.

According to him, Adenuga reaffirmed his commitment to the fight on multiple checkpoints along the corridor.
