The Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta said it had intensified the fight against crude oil theft by attacking various levels in the illicit act in the region.
The JTF last weekend destroyed surface tanks and hundreds of plastic drums used in the distribution of locally-refined petroleum products in Swali area of Yenagoa.

Lt. -Col Onyema Nwachukwu, the JTF Media Coordinator, said it had raided the area notorious for distribution of illegally-refined petroleum products in November 2012.
He said the warehouses used for the storage of the products of the numerous illegal refineries were destroyed to curb the trend of crude oil theft and illegal refining.
Nwachukwu explained that 104 surface tanks, 112 plastic drums and 40 drums with adulterated diesels were evacuated by the JTF for destruction.
The seized adulterated petroleum products were loaded to a JTF vessel and taken to the Department of Petroleum Resources for disposal.
Mr Zuwa Konugah, the Commissioner for State Capital Development, who spoke at the Swali waterfront site, commended JTF for its effort to combat crude oil theft.
He said: “Bayelsa Government cannot condone the activities of crude oil thieves within the state capital.’’
He observed that the area used for the distribution of the locally-refined petroleum products was not for any form of commercial activity in the Yenagoa master plan.
