Kerosene marketers under the aegis of Surface Tank Kerosene Dealers Association and Peddlers (SUTAKEP) have accused tank farm owners of complicity in petroleum product adulteration, especially the Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) into Diesel.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily, the Alimosho Unit Chairman of SUKATEP, Comrade Oluwole Ojo stated that presently the market demand for kerosene has increased tremendously but that there is no enough supply of the product.

Ojo alleged that the situation is compounded because tank farm owners usually adulterate a large volume of the kerosene in their tanks in order to get the all expensive diesel.
He explained that whenever kerosene is imported, the tank farms do not dispense the exact volume of kerosene they claim to have dispensed to the government. This according him has led to a shortfall is supply of kerosene.
Speaking, he said “When you talk about kerosene importation, most of the depots are adulterating it, when they tell you that they have imported kerosene, at the end of the day you will see them turning it into diesel”
“The supply is less, the people using the product have increased, and when there is higher demand the price will increase, how much are they selling it now at the depot, they are selling not less than N100 per liter, it is because the supply is minimal while the demand is greater”
“If they import 100 metric tonnes into a tank, at the end of the day they will not sell more than 2metric tonnes from it, the rest of it will be turned to AGO, this is the problem we are having, unless the government can look inwards and investigate the activities of the depot owners” he said.
