Lagos Industrial Command Of Customs Collects N771m Revenue

The Lagos Industrial Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) collected N771.05 million  in April.
The Area Controller of the command, Mrs Nkem Nzeribe, disclosed this to in Lagos recently.
She said that the April revenue figure was N85 million higher than that of March.
“This command made N686 million in March,“ she said.
 Nzeribe said that the April revenue was made only from excise duties, explaining that no revenue accrued to the command from licence fees.

 Nzeribe said that the April revenue was made only from excise duties, explaining that no revenue accrued to the command from licence fees.
“We usually get our monthly revenue from excise duty and money paid as licence fees.
“But the command did not generate any money from fees in April as almost all companies renewed their licences at the beginning of the year,’’ she said.
 Nzeribe said that more companies would be captured in the command’s revenue generation and that the bulk of the excise duty in April was collected from alcohol producing companies.
She urged the Federal Government to force companies producing and importing fruit juice, beverages, recharge cards and cosmetics to also pay excise duty.
“No duty is paid on some products. Even alcohol producing companies are gradually shifting attention to their soft drink brands and this tendency will definitely affect our revenue generation.
“Payment of excise duty by more companies is not meant to discourage local producers, but to ensure that they are accountable and socially responsible for what they sell in the market.“
Nzeribe said that government’s  policy that “de-excised“ so many duty paying factories and products had narrowed down the revenue generation by the command.
