Lekki Port, promoter of the Lekki Deep Seaport project, has awarded scholarships to 60 undergraduate students drawn from its six host communities in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The beneficiaries were selected from Ilekuru, Magbon-Segun, Oke-Segun, Itoke, Idotun and Lujagba communities, as part of the port’s educational support programme targeted at indigent students.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, the Managing Director of Lekki Port, Wang Qiang, said the scholarship scheme is one of the company’s human capital development initiatives designed to empower young people within the host communities to pursue their academic and career aspirations.

Qiang noted that the organisation remains committed to contributing meaningfully to the development of its immediate environment, adding that sustainable corporate success goes beyond operational performance.

“Education is the foundation of the future, and we are dedicated to shaping the next generation of leaders. As a corporate organisation, we will continue to support the education of students within our host communities, enabling them to pursue their dreams regardless of their circumstances,’’ he said.

The Baale of Magbon-Segun community, Chief Mufutau Dauda, commended Lekki Port for what he described as its consistent engagement and contributions to community development. He assured that the host communities would continue to cooperate with the port to ensure smooth operations.

One of the scholarship recipients, Muritala Esther Morenikeji, a final-year Political Science student at Lagos State University, expressed gratitude for the support, saying it would bring her closer to achieving her academic goals. She pledged to make responsible use of the scholarship funds.
