LILYPOND CUSTOMS RE-BRANDING:

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) in charge of the Tin Can Island Port '2' Command of Nigeria Customs Service (formerly Lillypond Command); Mr. Abdulkadir Mamud Dalhat has said that most of the officers at his command are rusty and need to be trained in order to operate under the new regime.
Speaking at a stakeholders meeting which held at the command recently, Dalhat revealed that the command is embarking on an in-house training programme for officers from the rank of Assistant Controllers (AC) down to Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC), so as to sharpen their‎ skills on latest developments in international trade.
He acknowledged that as at today, no government agency in Nigeria is as Information Technology (IT)-compliant as the Nigeria Customs Service, hence, he warned that ‎any officer who fails to undergo the training cannot operate under his command.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali had recently rebranded the‎ command from Lillypond Command to 'Tin Can Island Port 2 Command.
In line with the new name, Dalhat said it was imperative for officers to galvanise the change for improved revenue generation for the command.
"My dream is to make this command user -friendly with timely examination and fastest delivery of cargoes"
‎"I intend to sensitize most of my officers as majority of them have not been trained over the years, so we need to have an in-house training to update their knowledge and make sure they are in line with current realities"
"Immediately after the Sallah break, we intend to start a programme that will cut across from ASC 1 to all the Assistant Controllers", he disclosed.
He said the command would engage some very experienced senior officers who have gone round all the commands, who  are versatile in tariff and classification and post-clearance procedures, 
"So, I want to use them to impact on these officers whom we are going to use to start our new ‎name"
"I hope officers will be willing to key into this programme because there is no way you can change any customs formation without being IT compliant, it is the world over and not only customs"
"Make sure you attend this training, immediately after the Sallah break, anyone going for casual leave cannot be allowed to go, if you want to be part of us, you have to wait till after this training, without it, I don't see anybody operating in this new regime" Dalhat warned.
