Maersk Operations ‘Running Close To Normal Again’

Maersk said last night that its “operations are now running close to normal again”, as the world’s largest container shipping group continues the progress towards full recovery from the cyber attack on Tuesday 27 June.
It said that for APM Terminals, “all impacted terminals are open and operations are stabilising while productivity is increasing”. The Maasvlakte II terminal in Rotterdam “is now open for export and import operations via the gate and expects to initiate vessel and rail operations on Thursday”.
Meanwhile, for Maersk Line, the major IT systems are up and running and Maersk Line’s online booking portal My.Maerskline.com is online. “The portal currently supports functionalities such as booking and printing of bills of lading. More functionalities are expected in the coming days and the portal now operates at normal traffic levels,” Maersk said.
It said the work towards bringing container track and trace functionality, all booking systems, and other customer facing applications back online is progressing well. “The backlog of bookings from the past days is being processed,” the company added.
Maersk said its Damco freight forwarding and logistics subsidiary remains operational across its main products, although the unit “is working through significant backlogs of its EDI bookings from the past days”.
The company added: “We are aware of the inconvenience caused to our customers and partners and ask for continued understanding as we deploy all relevant resources to keep the cargo flowing with as little disruption as possible while working towards a normal state of business.
In terms of the cause of the cyber attack, Maersk said: “As opposed to previous communication, at this point we understand the source to be a virus also called ‘Not Petya’. We cannot comment further while we continue the investigations into the source of the attack in co-operation with our partners and agencies.”
As reported in Lloyd’s Loading List, Maersk yesterday announced that its online shipping portal My.MaerskLine.com had reopened following several days of its inactivation, with much of its functionality re-established  including: booking, submitting shipping instructions, accessing and printing verified copies and Bills of Lading.
Maersk confirmed that it will honour rates already communicated “and remain fully focused on supplying them to you through the normal channels soon again”.   
The line stressed that its vessels remain sailing and all APM terminal locations are operational and continue to increase their productivity.
