CRFFN Fixes Saturday July 7th As New Date for Governing Council Elections

After twice suspending it, the Council for the Regulations of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has fixed its governing council elections for Saturday 7th of July 2018.

Meanwhile, the freight forwarding associations have commended Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for the decision to conduct the elections.

The election which was initially slated to hold on 16th of May, 2018 was postponed to the 29th of June, 2018. The election was later shifted last week indefinitely by the Register of the Council, Sir Mike Jukwe. No reason was given for the postponement.

However, in a text message widely circulated by the Registrar of CRFFN, Sir Mike Jukwe, on Monday which was sighted by Shipping Position Daily, the election is now to take place on Saturday 7th of July, 2018 which would be preceded by accreditation of voters on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th July, 2018 at 9.00am.

The message also gave the venue of the election as the Freight Forwarders Headquarters, GRA, Apapa in  Lagos.

Recall that 16 contestants have already been cleared to contest the election in a screening conducted by the Screening Committee with observers from the Department of State Services (DSS) a fortnight ago

But, in a  statement released late yesterday by a body called  ‘Federating Associations of CRFFN’, it commended the minister for taking the right decision at the right time on matters in relation to the postponed council election.

The statement reads; "On behalf of the greater numbers of freight forwarding practitioners in Nigeria may we sincerely appreciate our Hon Minister of Transportation for being a statesman, thus taking the right decision at the right time on matters in relation to the postponed council election"

"It is also important to appreciate some of the top government functionaries in the transportation ministry who stood by him to taking a popular decision in the public interest".
