The Chaplain of a Nigerian seafarer centre named ‘Mission to Seafarers and Seafarers club located in Apapa Lagos, Venerable Mike Gbadebo last week said that many of the regulatory agencies in charge of seafarers’ welfare and upkeep are being manipulated by the devil and that this is why they have refused to listen to the cries of Nigerian seafarers.
The chaplain in his sermon at last week’s Christmas Carol service which the centre held for seafarers in Apapa alleged that these regulatory agencies understands the plight of the seafarers but that their hearts has been hardened not to care.
Even though he did not mention their names, he said that the only way the lots of Nigerian seafarers can be improved upon is for the heads of maritime agencies to embrace Jesus Christ.
The reverend noted that if the government can assist in the area of training will reduce the level of unemployment in Nigeria.
Reverend Gbadebo advocated for Federal Government assistance to seafarers in the area of capacity building which according to him will further reduce the level of unemployment in Nigeria.
Speaking on the importance of the carol service, he said that it has been a yearly celebration in the country for over fifteen years now and that it is a day set aside for seafarers to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and to enjoy Christmas away from home.
He urged the seafarers present to pray for the government and its parastatal to have a change of mind in building a better Nigeria and indeed the maritime sector.
