Mr Valentine Orizu, Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Anambra chapter, has appealed to the State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo, to empower the body with basic working tools.
Orizu made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Thursday.
He said the appeal became necessary, “because the body also covers Asaba axis, hence we are appealing for support from both states.”
He said the body needed 1,000 life jackets, 2 viber boats and 1 operational vehicle for rescue mission and monitoring of activities around the waters.
Orizu said if there are enough working tools, accidents that could claim lives would be avoided.
He called for partnership with well-meaning residents of the state.
