Remains Of Seafarers Killed In Mayuree Naree Attack Repatriated

More than three and half months after the attack on the bulker Mayuree Naree in the Strait of Hormuz the remains of three seafarers who died in the attack have been repatriated.

Bangkok-headquartered Precious Shipping said in statement that the remains of three seafarers who died in the attack on the Thai-flagged bulker on 11 March had been repatriated to Thailand.

“The Company extends its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and respectfully mourns the loss of the three seafarers.  The Company remains committed to providing full assistance, care, and support to bereaved families throughout this difficult time,” Precious Shipping said.

The Mayuree Naree had been attempting to exit the Arabian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz on 11 March when it was struck by two projectiles. The vessel had 23 crew on board of which 20 seafarers managed to evacuate from the vessel and were brought ashore by the Royal Navy of Oman. The three seafarers killed were believed to have been in the engine room at the time of the attack.

The Mayree Naree drifted in the strait following the attack and reportedly grounded off the Iranian island of Qeshm.

As of 30 June a total of 14 seafarers have been killed in 49 vessel attacks since the US/Israel – Iran war started on 28 February, according to figures from the IMO.
