NIPCO Gas Limited has disclosed plans to construct 20 additional Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across Nigeria as part of efforts to deepen gas utilisation and support the Federal Government’s clean energy and post-subsidy reform agenda.
The Managing Director of NIPCO Gas Limited, Nagendra Verma, made this known during a media engagement at the company’s office in Lagos, where he outlined ongoing expansion projects aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.
Verma said the initiative is being executed through a joint venture between NIPCO Gas Limited and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML).
“Aligned with the Federal Government’s clean energy and post-subsidy reform agenda, NIPCO Gas Limited, in a joint venture with NGML, is currently constructing 20 additional Compressed Natural Gas stations across Nigeria,” he said.
He explained that the expansion programme also includes the establishment of strategic compression hubs to support nationwide gas distribution and improve access to gas-powered mobility infrastructure along key transport routes and major urban centres.
According to him, two CNG mother stations located at Lekki in Lagos State and Ore in Ondo State are already at advanced stages of completion.
“In addition, CNG mother stations located at Lekki and Ore are at advanced stages of completion. These facilities will serve as primary compression and dispatch hubs, enabling the efficient supply of CNG to daughter stations and industrial customers across various regions,” Verma said.
He noted that the nationwide rollout is strategically designed to ensure broader coverage along critical transport corridors and high-traffic urban centres, thereby enhancing accessibility and affordability of CNG for commercial vehicles, fleet operators, mass transit systems and private motorists.
Verma further explained that the company will adopt a mother-daughter network model to extend gas supply to areas not directly connected to pipeline infrastructure.
“Through the mother-daughter network model, reliable gas supply will be extended to areas not directly connected to pipeline infrastructure,” he added.
The NIPCO Gas boss stressed that all the facilities under development are being implemented in compliance with regulatory and safety standards, noting that the expansion would also deliver economic and environmental benefits.
“This expansion is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, reduce transportation fuel costs, stimulate enterprises within the mobility value chain, lower carbon emissions and contribute to improved air quality,” he said.
