The Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) and Global Bond Intership Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to organising a two-day training programme for stakeholders in the maritime industry.
The conference which is set to take place between the 12th and 14th, December 2012, is being organised to appraise how the Maritime/Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria has fared, and also to look at the issues affecting the industry as a whole.

The conference which is tagged the Nigerian Maritime Development Conference 2012: An economic summit to revolutionarily assess the challenges of the maritime sector” is scheduled to take place at Tinapa in Calabar, Cross River State.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily correspondent, the registrar of NIS, Mr. Chima Sampson said the Nigerian Maritime Development Conference 2012 is meant to appraise the maritime industry.
According to him, “it is a conference that will bring lots of people together by also looking at the oil and gas transportation and some other areas that Nigeria has been lacking, whereby there will be spring-up issues, the future of shipping in Nigeria, and we will look at the areas to put more effort to improve our local shipping”.
Giving an insight into the MoU, Chima said that the relationship between NIS and Global Bond Intership Limited, a maritime consulting company which covers wide transportation, communication and other areas is for the organisation of such conferences in order to take the industry to another level.
“The relationship started this year, although we have had other relationships that have been on ground for long, but the one for the conference started this year”, he said.
It was gathered that the conference will be a practical step towards tackling the numerous obstacles pulling the ship of progress in the Nigerian maritime sector, especially by creating a valid platform for solutions to confront problems.
However, the conference is premised on the concept that development projects need to consider the most important issues related to socio-economic impact in order to provide complete or total solutions.
In addition, it will also examine international best practices in relation to environmental protection, particularly in cases of possible serious contaminations, toxicity and economic sabotage.
According to the organizers, NIMADEC 2012 is billed to be a yearly event where students, administrators, business executives and directors, organisations, NGOs, banks, insurance companies, corporate business groups and non-profit professionals can improve personal skills and organizational strategies, and discover opportunities.
