NIS Move Training To Port Harcourt This Week

All roads will lead to the Rivers State capital of Port Harcourt this week, where foremost maritime capacity building academy, the Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) will be holding its continuous membership development programme.

Called the Professional Innovation Workshop and organised by the NIS, it is set to hold on Thursday the 25th of July 2013 , under the chairmanship of NIS Eastern Zone chapter ; Ebeten Akeodi Moses.

The first Vice President of NIS, Dr. Babatunde Samuel told Shipping Position Daily in Lagos that the since the eastern zone of the academy has just been instituted, there is the need for the training to hold in Port Harcourt.

According to him, the chairman of the eastern zone is keen about membership development and human capacity building thus has partner with a consulting firm to organise Continuous Membership Development Programme.

The theme of the workshop is: "Emerging Trends in the Shipping and Logistics Supply Chain Practice: Outsourcing and Procurement Strategies".

He further stressed that some members of NIS have not been able to understand the principles and practice of outsourcing and procurement strategies, adding that there is the need to give them the modern trends of training, this he stressed gave rise to the need for eastern zone to hold the workshop for members.

Babatunde reiterated that the train will soon move to Lagos State, but added that the eastern zone, which comprises of 10 states need the training most.

"We believe that members will be able to understand the principle of outsourcing so as to equip themselves with modern innovation because there is always a challenge if we don't know the system", he added.

"Most companies today are trying to outsource many activities that do not go directly with the organisation and that is why today, even security is outsourced, the issue of information management is outsourced, supply of items is also outsourced and so many other things are being outsourced and this are things we want our members to know, so that they would be able to participate effective henceforth".

He also confirmed that some of the speakers at the workshop to be in attendance are; Assistant General Manager, cOperations, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Eastern Zone, a Logistics and Supply Chain Management Consultant Sir. Ahuama Joshua and Rector, Global Maritime Academy, Nigeria,Engineer Isaac Aikoroje Aruya.
