NIS Set To Hold Training For Members In Western Zone

The Nigerian Institute of Shipping (NIS) has said that the first phase of its training for members in the western zone will hold in next week.

Registrar of NIS, Mr. Samson Chima told Shipping Position Daily that the training is part of the objectives of the foremost maritime manpower development institution to train and retrain its members.

He said that this year’s first training for members is tagged ‘Physical distribution and supply chain management; emerging issues, prospects and challenges’. The programme is a mandatory one for all members and it is a must for them to attend, he added.

It is expected to take place from 20th to 21st of September 2013, will be taking place at the Rockview Hotel in Apapa Lagos.

“Every year, we design training programmes to enable our members get updated on activities and issues going on in the industry. The second phase is to come up in two months time”, he stated.

“Apart from this, we are also organizing a special programme for the fellows, this will be coming up next month October, and it is an executive programme for fellows of NIS”.

“The advantage of being a member is that most of the fees you pay are subsidized, non- members can equally attend the programme, they will also benefit from such training, because we have recruited professionals who are going to deliver special lectures, so their paying is just a token”

“The reason why we organise such programmes is because we believe that the industry is dynamic in nature and a lot of things keep emerging from time to time, we carry out research and impact on our members so that they can benefit their organization”, he explained.

Chima said that the lecturers are coming from all areas of logistics and physical distribution. One of them according to Chima, is Professor S.I Oni from University of Lagos.
