In a chat with Shipping Position Daily correspondent last week in Lagos, managing consultant of the academy, Mr. Christopher Imumolen described the course as an opportunity to differentiate between a practitioner and an ordinary basic learner.

The Oil and Gas Education and Research Institute is set to begin another international diploma course in oil and gas and maritime operations for those who want to have basic knowledge of how to operate in the sectors.

In a chat with Shipping Position Daily correspondent last week in Lagos, managing consultant of the academy, Mr. Christopher Imumolen described the course as an opportunity to differentiate between a practitioner and an ordinary basic learner.

He said the academy is desirous of grooming more people to become professionals on the field, adding that there is deficiency of professionals in the field of both maritime and oil and gas.

According to him, “we are only trying to broaden our horizon with the training by introducing international diploma in oil and gas and maritime, it is a way of trying to relate with the public and to see how to groom more professionals in the field”.

“We see that the field has deficiency of professionals, which is one of the issues with the local content, if you don’t have people who are trained, how many Universities do you have in Nigeria that can really train people, we do not have enough professionals to fill the vacuum which is one of the issue with local content”, he added.

He however stated that the institution will be partnering with professionals internationally so as to make the course an effective one by which people can get practical training required on the field.

Imumolen reiterated that the people will be adequately trained, and they will also be given the opportunity to have their internship in oil and gas companies to add to what they have got, also they will be enrolled into the onshore and offshore profession after the training.

“We are partnering with our professionals internationally to see how this course can be very effective, and people can get the practical relevance of the training required in oil and gas, so what we have done, is to bring a very good training at a very good price”.

He also added that swimming facilities for those that will be going for the maritime courses will be made available.
