Oil Marketers Says ‘There is No Aviation Fuel Scarcity’, Airlines are Owing Debts.

Following the commotion that ensued last week at the airports over multiple rescheduling of flights and outright cancellation of some, which according to the airline operators is caused by scarcity of the Jet A1 known as aviation fuel, importers of the product have debunked the claims that the product is scarce even as they have said that it is available in their tanks.

According to the importers of the product, the airlines are not able to get the product because they owe large sums of money for the products which they have collected before and they have not been able to pay back.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily correspondent in Lagos last week, Mr. TokunboOguntowo, Depot Manager of Sahara Energy, one of the major distributors of aviation fuel at the airports said that the airlines owe and this is the reason for the perceived scarcity. According to him, marketers now supply aviation fuel to airlines on cash basis in what he described as “pay as you go”.
Oguntowo explained that the situation has been going on like this for the past two weeks and that it has nothing to do with the scarcity of the fuel (PMS) because, according to him there is no link at all.
“There is aviation fuel in our tanks, but the airlines cannot pay for it and that is why they are not picking it up, the situation has been going on like this for the past two weeks”
It would be recalled that virtually all airlines last week cancelled their flight, while a few others rescheduled them. The operators equally selected ‘high yield routes’ to fly.
It was reported to have been rowdy at the popular MurtalaMuhammed Airport 2 (MMA2) last week as travelers sought to know which airline was going to their destinations.
The same situation was also reported to have happened at General Aviation Terminal (GAT) in Lagos, where passengers expressed disappointment with the situation.
