Mr Etomi spoke recently at the commissioning of suggestion and complaints boxes which were provided by the Port Industry Anti Corruption Standing Committee for ports in the eastern area.

He stated that the exercise was a significant step in the steps to move the port community forward in furtherance of its stand on zero tolerance for corruption and penchant for good governance.

The general manager acknowledged that suggestions are necessary because they go a long way to influence management decisions even as he encouraged the port community to feel free to contribute their suggestions and bring their complaints forward, using the boxes provided.

Promising total protection for anyone with useful suggestions and genuine complaints about interactions in the ports, he urged such information and complaints to be factual.

Speaking earlier, in his welcome address, the chairman of the Port Industry Anti-corruption Standing Committee, Rivers Ports, Mr.  Fidelis Allen, said the suggestion \ complaint boxes are meant to bridge existing gap between stakeholders and the committee.  “It is a strategy for regular communication on critical issues that affect port operations in Eastern region of the NPA,” he said.

He challenged stakeholders to influence the environment where they do business by proffering suggestions using the boxes. “We begin a new phase of mobilization of stakeholders to the preferred corporate governance that promotes citizen’s involvement through offering of useful suggestions on the improvement of the port system generally”, he added.

The occasion was attended by the senior management staff of the zone, and other stakeholders at the port. Three suggestion boxes were provided at the area one, Port Harcourt port.
