There is a drop in the number of vessels laden with imported vehicles that arrived at Lagos ports in the last 30 days compared to what was recorded since the beginning of the year.
Auto Port Weekly findings revealed that fewer RORO vessels called at the PTML and Five Star Logistics terminal at Tin Can Island port, Lagos, compared to previous months.
Auto Port Weekly recalls that in February, a total of 7,400 units both used and new vehicles were recorded, while in January 11,563 units of vehicles made it to the RORO terminals in Lagos ports.

Auto Port Weekly recalls that in February, a total of 7,400 units both used and new vehicles were recorded, while in January 11,563 units of vehicles made it to the RORO terminals in Lagos ports.
Some of the operators attributed the reduction to the on-going construction at the terminals while others said that government policy on vehicles has deterred car carriers from calling at the PTML and Five Stars Logistics terminals.
However statistics obtained from the NPA has also revealed that in the last two weeks showed that, only three vessels laden with vehicles had called at the terminal, a situation that has made the various car parks to be almost empty of imported vehicles.
At Five Star Logistics terminal, sources disclosed that there was also a drop in the number of vessels that came in with vehicles at the terminal, attributing the development to the automobile policy put in place by the Federal Government.
Reports of the daily berthing meeting of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) also revealed that no car carrier berthed at both PTML and Five Star Logistics terminal in March.
But, it was also confirmed that Standard Flour Mill (SFM) handled quite a number of vehicles in March, it received 975 units of vehicles that came in aboard two vessels. The vessels are: MV Hoegh Kunsan and Hoegh Masan.
