Rivers State Government is leaving no stone unturned to tackle the perennial shortage of petroleum products within the state, by drawing out plans to build a $2.5Billion refinery in Okirika.
The state Commissioner of Energy, Okey Amadi who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt last week said that all paper work for the commencement of the refinery is already being completed.
Rivers State Government is leaving no stone unturned to tackle the perennial shortage of petroleum products within the state, by drawing out plans to build a $2.5Billion refinery in Okirika.
The state Commissioner of Energy, Okey Amadi who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt last week said that all paper work for the commencement of the refinery is already being completed.
According to the commissioner, the refinery is a “state- of- the- art modular refinery”. He added that the refinery will be a government – private partnership arrangement between Rivers State Government and a consortium of foreign firms.
Already, we gathered that the refinery has acquired a massive land situated at Ikpokiri in Okirika domain (Ogu/Bolo LGA) of Rivers State.
It is expected that the refinery project will take an estimated two years to complete.
However, the Hon. Commissioner revealed that in line with the shared responsibilities between Rivers State government and the core investors, the state government will provide the license for its operations, project site, land certificate of Occupancy (C of O), security, while the investors will pay money for the project proper.
