The Oyo State Shippers’ Association (OYSSA) has urged the Minister of Transport, Ahaji Idris Umar, to effect the commencement of business at the Ibadan dry port located in Erunmu.
The President of OYSSA, Dr Ayo Omotoso, made the call in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday.
He commended the Federal Government for locating the dry port, otherwise known as Inland Container Terminal (ICD), in Ibadan.
Omotosho also appealed for a full-fledged port of destination and the revival of the rail system across the state.

He said that government, had in June 6, 2012, declared Ibadan and two other ICDs as cargo destination and this had gladdened investors, importers, exporters and other maritime operators.
Omotosho said government should also intervene and decide which agency should control the dry ports between the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and the Nigerian Ports Authority.
He advised the government to correctly reflect the new status of the ICDs at Erunmu in Oyo State, Zawachiki in Kano State and Isiala Ngwa in Abia as full–fledged dry ports.
NAN reports that the idea of building six dry ports across the country was conceived in 2006 to provide lasting solution to the problem of port congestion.
The dry ports are to facilitate delivery of cargo to importers in the hinterlands.
