Shippers’ Council Reaffirms Commitment to the Fight Against Corruption

Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), has reiterated its unwavering commitment to promoting corruption-free operations and strengthening integrity across the maritime industry.

This assurance was given during a workshop held at the Council’s headquarters in Lagos, to commemorate this year’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Day.

The event, themed “Uniting Youth Against Corruption: Shipping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” emphasized the important role of young people in building a transparent and accountable maritime sector.

In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah, MON, represented by the Director of Finance, Mr. Steve Olaniyi, described the workshop as part of the Council’s renewed efforts to uphold accountability and transparency.

He pointed out that empowering young people is critical to sustaining the fight against corruption, as they are key stakeholders in the nation’s development.

Mr. Steve further reaffirmed the NSC management’s dedication to supporting the core mandate of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) and consolidating the Council’s drive to promote accountability, transparency, and integrity in all its operations.

Delivering his goodwill message, Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, who was represented by Dr. Hadiza Rimi, at the event commended the Council for its continuous efforts to strengthen internal controls, improve service standards, and collaborate with anti-corruption agencies in building a more accountable maritime sector.

He urged all staff to be vigilant, resist unethical influences, and champion integrity in every aspect of their duties.

According to him, the fight against corruption begins with individual choices, and together, we can build a system where transparency thrives and corrupt practices find no space to flourish.

In an interview with the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Zubairu Mohammed, affirmed the Council’s readiness to intensify efforts toward sustaining a corruption-free system and guiding the staff toward honesty and integrity in their career journey.
