As part of efforts to provide infrastructures for cadets of its institute and to promote other relevant courses to boost capacity building, Stars Maritime Academy has said that plans are ongoing to construct a survival pool in the academy.
The school also said that the construction of the pool may come up in 2014 even as it said that the project is targeted at enhancing practical performance of its students.

Rector of the privately owned maritime school, Dr. Reuben Ovai disclosed to Shipping Position Daily, recently in Ogun State that a consultant has already been contacted to carry out a survey for the pool and a fire house, adding that, "we are only waiting for one thing or the other before the construction will commence".
"We have seen one of the samples of the swimming pool tiles and we have also concluded on the one we prefer", he added.
He said that construction of a pool is paramount in the minds of management team of the academy and that already a space has been set aside for the facility.
Ovai also added that after the completion of work on the twins three storey building, the survival pool will be the next on the agenda.
"We have a land for the pool, it is our own plan and our project therefore it is most paramount as well "Ovai stated.
He however said after the completion of the survival pool, the academy will then embark on mandatory programme for seafarers pointing out that, “we can't be complete without a survival pool in the school".
"And that is why we have not been able to embark on some certain courses; which is the mandatory and we are waiting until we put that in place, even with a fire house”, the Rector added.
He also invited the director general of NMASA, Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi and management of the agency to visit the school to see what is on ground.
