The Southern Governors’ Forum has decried that state of the roads leading to the two ports in Lagos and lamented that the dilapidated state is choking the Nigerian economy.
Condemning the perennial gridlock, the Governors who are from the 17 states in the southern part of the country, however called for the construction of ports in other parts of the country.
At its meeting which held on Tuesday in Asaba, the capital of Delta state, the Governors
reviewed the situation in the nation generally and focused on the current security situation, agitations/restructuring, prospect for inter-state collaboration and partnerships as well as on the incidence of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
At the end of the meeting which was attended by 15 state Governors, the meeting expressed concern on the continued gridlock on the Oshodi – Apapa Expressway and the chokehold it has exerted on the nation’s economy being the sole outlet from Apapa Wharf.
Consequently, the meeting recommended the “activation and establishment of ports in other states of the federation to create new jobs and promote socio-economic activities in the country”.
