The South-South Parliamentary Caucus in the House of Representatives has frowned at the zero budgetary allocation to the University of Petroleum, Efurrun, Delta state compared to the Petroleum College, Kaduna with N14.6 billion allocation in the 2009 budget.
Chairman of the caucus, Hon. Andrew Uchendu, told journalists in Port Harcourt last week that he led his members to the Petroleum Training Institute in Warri to asses the state of things, but added that what the lawmakers saw was total neglect on the part of the federal government.
Giving an insight into their findings, Hon Uchendu said it was “a sorry sight and quite disturbing,” adding that they met with the Vice Chancellor of the institution , Professor Alabi in a one-room office where he narrated how the university had been starved of funds before fresh moves to bring it on stream.
He consequently expressed optimism that both the Education Trust Fund(ETF) and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) would rise to the occasion and ensure that the university enjoys adequate funding commensurate with the level of seriousness it deserves for the training of manpower.
